Tummy to Mummy
                  Pregnancy, Birth & Postnatal Support

Hi, I’m Kirsten and I reside in the Barossa Valley (about an hour from Adelaide) with my gorgeous family. I love being a mum and of course, being a doula!

Being a doula is amazing; it is such an honour to be invited to support someone. Just as each woman is different, so is each birth and each birth is special whether it is a natural birth or medically assisted birth. I am constantly learning and developing with each new experience and meeting fantastic people along the way.
I am able to remain calm and level headed for a woman and her family without showing preference, trying to influence in any way or giving advice. I am a great listener with the ability to “put myself in someone else’s shoes” and am a positive, consistent support.

It is important to me that parents feel confident, prepared and supported to enable them to undertake the most demanding yet rewarding role in their lives whether it be for the first time or subsequent time.

I believe that when a woman feels safe and nurtured, so does her family.

After the birth of my daughter, I began to understand so much more about myself and life in general. The experience shared by women of pregnancy, birth and raising children became more than an interest and quickly developed into a passion. I then stumbled across the word “doula”. As a lot of other people, I had never heard this word before. I decided to read more and after a few sentences realised that becoming a doula was my purpose and I immediately fell in love!
I truly feel helping women and their families, have the best experience possible is a calling for me and feel my ability to provide intimate and continuous care will be of great benefit to women who employ me as their doula.

I completed my training and became a certified doula through Optimum Birth, an Australian Organisation in 2008. To certify I was required to complete a theory component which consisted of four modules, pass four exams and to attend three births as a student.

I really enjoy learning ways to support a woman and her family both emotionally and physically during one of the most memorable times of their lives. People can become doulas without any formal training and this is because a doula has no clinical responsibility whatsoever. Doulas tend to have the “instinct” part built in already and train to “tune” them up!

  • To be adaptable to and to serve a family according to their individual needs and desires
  • To make myself available to women who have determined for various reasons; they need extra support, female companionship and a familiar face throughout the journey to becoming a mother.
  • To encourage women and their families to see pregnancy, birth, feeding their baby and becoming parents as a positive and confident time in their life.
