HOW A PARTNER & DOULA WORK TOGETHER
 |
Supporting a woman during labour can be a marathon task, as birth partners do not have the wonderful endorphins
provided to the woman by her body. The endorphins allow a woman to lose concept of time and also help to relieve
her pain.
As your doula, I will enable your partner to support you at their own comfort level.
I can keep you both well nourished and hydrated and give your partner the peace of mind to take regular rest breaks
while knowing your needs are met with me by your side.
|
I understand that I can not replace that unique support and comfort that only your partner can provide. By having
a doula attend the birth, your partner can focus their full energy on providing you the best support while a doula
takes photos, suggests positions you wanted to try, heating hot packs, massage and reminding you to go to the toilet.
|
It is a common fear that partners feel a doula will push them to the sidelines. Throughout prenatal visits, I also
form a relationship with the support person to encourage good communication so roles are clearly defined prior to
the labour. Labouring women can relax more during their labour knowing that their support people are being looked
after.
A great doula understands that the partner is the most important support! If your partner is concerned about a
doulas role, I am more than happy to meet up for a no-obligation coffee or chat on the phone to answer any questions
in order for you to make an informed decision.
